John Thompson
John's experience and bonsai
collection encompass a wide range of species and styles.
He is a recognized authority on the development of
bonsai techniques for Native Oaks.
He especially enjoys working on
collected specimens of Oak, Juniper and Boxwood.
Collecting from the wild as well as the neighborhood and
maintaining a growing ground for development of material
yield a stream of interesting pre-bonsai for his
avocation.
JT emphasizes the active "Doing of
Bonsai," and incorporates the natural forms that exist
around us with the unique characteristics of the
individual tree. He believes in touching and enjoying
his trees every day.

Meeting - Workshop
Wiring Techniques with
John Thompson
7-9:30 PM
How many of you feel uncertain when wiring a new tree or
restyling one? Should we use copper or can we get away with
aluminum? Are we wiring properly for the bending we want?
Well join us at the October meeting and learn from John
Thompson. John will be showing us all the basics and share
his techniques for wiring.
Show and Tell
this month will feature your seasonal trees.
BONSAI SALE
on Saturday,
October 25, 2008
Jim Ransahoff and Hap Thompson are having a collection
reduction sale. Collections contain Bonsai, pre-bonsai,
pots, stands and dais, possibly some stones. The event will
be hosted by the Plantings:
898 Coleman Ave.
Menlo Park
Sales will start at TBD.
ANOTHER
SALE
What:
100+ bonsai trees, mostly developed, some pre-bonsai, bonsai
pots
Who: Kathy Sahner, Gordon Deeg, Valerie Monroe, John
Thompson, Phyllis Swanson, maybe others
Where: Gordon Deeg's front yard 196 Encinal Ave.,
Atherton, CA 94027
When: October 18, 2008, 10:00 AM sharp (not before)
Why: The collections of these bonsaists have grown
too large and they have reluctantly decided to sell some so
they can devote more time to fewer trees.
Gordon's front yard is enclosed with a fence. Park across
the street in the Encinal School's parking lot. Enter the
sales area through the gate.
It is recycle time
The Board will be taking down a batch of copper to the
recycling center at the end of October. If you would like
to donate your old wire to the cause, bring it to either the
September or October club meeting. Please keep the copper
separate from the aluminum. Thanks for contributing!
