7:00 Techniques Workshop
Sandy Planting
will tell us how to get our plants ready for winter
and how to maintain them through the cold weather.
She will show us what and how to prune and clean up
our plants. Because of our mild climate, certain
plants can be repotted in November. Examples are
flowering quince, elms, and oaks. Attend the
meeting and learn what else!

Meeting
Guest speaker
Dennis Vojtilla will talk to us about flowering and
fruiting bonsai, plants that are a specialty of
his. His demonstration tree will be a Princess
Persimmon, which will be part of our raffle.
Dennis is a
member of BABA and East Bay Bonsai Society, where
he is past president. He has been doing bonsai for
twenty-five years, and has been active in bonsai
organizations for at least fifteen. He was chairman
of last year's GSBF Convention, where the theme was
Fruiting Trees. None of us who saw the exhibit
there will forget the wonderful trees that were
assembled for that event. Many of them truly
equaled in beauty and presentation trees from
Japanese show books.
Note: We recently
received photos from a workshop conducted on
October 20, 2001 by Harunobu Tokita and Kathy
Shaner. Thanks to Stephanie North for the photos.
They can be seen here.
