October Meeting

Friday, October 13th, 2000 at 7pm

Harunobu Tokita

The club is privileged to have Harunobu Tokita from Japan as our demonstrator this month. He was Sensei Mitsuya's second apprentice while Kathy Shaner was his third. Kathy says she learned a lot from Mr. Tokita and admires him both for his artistry and his technical skills. She especially enjoyed traveling around Japan with him and Mr. Mitsuya, stopping frequently to work rapidly and skillfully on clients' trees. Mr. Tokita has been in the United States twice before to demonstrate at Conventions and give workshops. He has been very well received everywhere he went. Seiji Shiba will be on hand at the meeting to translate for him, and Kathy will also be there to assist.

October Work Schedule
From A Year of Bonsai Tips by Jim Ransohoff

Special Event

October 15. On Saturday October 14th, the day after our regular meeting, Mr. Tokita will conduct two workshops: one from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the second from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. These workshops are for people with a little more experience than can be gained in introductory lessons. The workshops are currently full, but John Planting is making a list of alternates in case someone drops out. Call John at (650) 323-6955 if you want to be put on the list. The cost is around $40. Participants bring their own trees, tools, and wire. Kathy suggests bringing two trees in case one is not healthy enough to work on. She also recommends that participants bring their best trees. Mr. Tokita will help improve them, but will not strip them down to nothing as some visiting artists have done in the past.
