Founded in 1961, the East Bay Bonsai Society is one of the most enduring bonsai organizations in the United States. With over 110 members, the Society meets monthly to share information, view members' trees, and hear presentations on bonsai-related topics by local and guest artists from here and abroad. EBBS offers a network of valuable bonsai contacts and resource information, a monthly newsletter, lending library and periodic excursions. In addition, the Society hosts events including workshops, a bonsai auction, mid-year picnic, winter holiday party, and a yearly show including an exhibition of bonsai displays, a plant sale and featured demonstration by a notable bonsai artist. The East Bay Bonsai Society participated as a founding member of the Golden State Bonsai Federation which sponsors a state-wide convention each year featuring prominent international demonstrators and world-class exhibits.
