Activities
The society sponsors bonsai demonstrations by masters in the art; lectures; workshops; benefit drawings; excursions to nurseries; a network of members with bonsai skills, sources of supply and information; access to local and statewide bonsai information; exhibitions of bonsai and related accessories; critiques and continuing learning experiences.
Annual Dues
$20 per year per individual$25 per year per household
Members joining in October through December retain membership through the following calendar year.
Newsletter
A monthly newsletter is published and mailed to all members and includes bonsai information, coming events by our club as well as others, seasonal hints, bay area show information, and announcements of bonsai related items and services available.
Library
An extensive library is available to members and includes reference books, magazines, videotapes and pamphlets.
Auction
The Society sponsors an annual auction at the regularly-scheduled meeting time each July. Members may sell bonsai and related items. Members and non-members are welcome to bid.
Golden State Bonsai & Suiseki Display Garden
Located next to the EBBS meeting space at the Lakeside Garden Center, is outdoor display garden features a spectacular collection of world-class bonsai, many styled by some of the most notable bonsai artists in California. The garden is open Saturday 10-4, Sunday noon-4, and Wednesday - Friday 11-3.Admission is free.

Workshops
EBBS sponsors workshops for everyone to bring and work on their own trees with guidance by experienced bonsai artists. Workshops are held at the Lakeside Garden Center in Oakland, 7-10 p.m. on the Tuesday following the monthly general meeting (2nd Wednesday). This year, past president Stephen Faulk leads the workshops; cost is $5 for members or $10 for non-members.
Bonsai Basics Workshop
EBBS offers a series of six presentations in 2001 consisting of lecture and practice on trees provided by EBBS, 7-10pm in the Lakeside Garden Center. Topics include introduction to the basic tree styles, tools, pruning & wiring, design features, care of trees, tree hormones & fluids, budding & healing, seasonal tree care and tree growth. Cost is $30 including tree and syllabus.
Annual Show
The East Bay Bonsai Society sponsors a two-day show each October featuring an impressive exhibit of finished bonsai, presentation by a nationally-acclaimed bonsai artist, benefit drawing, workshops, and sale of bonsai and related materials.
