Bonsai Master, Shinji Suzuki, is widely acknowledged in Asia and Europe as the leading edge of contemporary bonsai design in Japan. This was recently acknowledged by Marco Invernezzi in The Bonsai Enthusiast. He has won many coveted prizes in Japan, and is curator of the famous Juppo-an Bonsai Museum. Mr. Suzuki will bring his intensity and genteel humor to California's Central Valley for the first time.
Walter Pall is an Artistic Icon of bonsai in Europe. He is widely followed in the International Bonsai literature, and is highly regarded as an outstanding teacher. He has been a popular visitor to the eastern USA for several years
The theme of the GSBF Convention 2003, is Bonsai California Style.
Two entire afternoon seminars will be devoted to the selection, care, and unique styling of native California Trees
Artists with special expertise in native species, including junipers and oaks, will provide demonstrations and advice on all aspects of these trees. This seminar will provide a rare opportunity for this knowledge.
There will be an exceptional number of workshops providing large and rich plant material gathered from across the state. Workshops have been carefully planned to provide participants with excellent teachers and convienant schedules throughout the weekend.
Over 80 vendors from across the Western USA have planned to attend. A huge assortment of pre-bonsai, pots, tools and supplies will be available as nowhere else!
The bonsai exhibit will feature world-class trees from the entire state, and many venerable specimens from collections in Central California. This will mark the first time the GSBF Convention has come to the Central Valley and we are committed to providing the finest program ever, together with that Warm Valley Hospitality
GSBF Convention 2003 will offer
wonderful opportunities to see our Majestic National Parks. Tours to the Giant
Sequoias in Sequoia-Kings Canyon Park, and to the Yosemite Valley, the crown
jewel of our National Park System will be available. Wine tasting with several
Central Coast Vineyards is planned and perhaps a game of chance at one of the
many local Native American Casinos. We will explore the Forestiere Underground
Gardens and much more.
