After you
have done all you can for Kusamura Bonsai Club, you might
consider investigating and supporting the Golden State
Bonsai Federation Collection North in Oakland at Lake
Merritt. Their large fund raising event takes place Feb 25th
and 26th at the garden center. (see events on
back page)
This permanent home assures
that these precious trees and stones by outstanding masters
and collectors will be preserved for everyone’s enjoyment.
Finalization of this open air
cultural museum has been made possible through the support
of the Oakland City council and its Parks and Recreation
Department. Councilman John Russo (District 2) is the
coordinator between the City and Golden State Federation
officials.
The enthusiasm of volunteer
labor by members of the various Northern California Clubs,
their spouses and friends plus the generosity of commercial
concerns have been invaluable. The beauty of this garden has
been achieved through hard work, success and few failures by
a dedicated force of volunteers led by site manager, John
North.
As time goes by and funds
allow, changes and additions are contemplated. Trees
selected for the Collection will number 100 t supply a
rotating display of about 50. These trees require constant
care. Tree caretakers will work under Kathy Shaner’s,
curator, direction. Members of the Merritt College
Horticultural Club have taken on the duties of garden
groundskeepers.
If you would like to enjoy
participation in the Collection-North docent program,
