DONATION
TREES
Bring your club and
donation plants to the Auditorium of the Palo Alto Art
Center on the East side of the building (the side closest to
101).
There is
a parking lot at that end of the building and plenty of room
for unloading. You can enter this parking lot directly off
Embarcadero or drive around after entering the Newell St.
Drive. If the plants you donate do not sell, you are
expected to take them back and care for them for another
year. So, I say if a tree has not sold at three or more
shows, it should be put on the raffle table and given a new
chance on life.
The club
and donation trees will be priced Friday night. If you know
the price of the plants, then you may tag them yourself.
This would be a big help.
PLANT
SALE DONATIONS
The club expects each individual to contribute 3 bonsai
plants or related materials (pots, books, etc). These
items should have a sale value of $25 each, or you can
give a cash donation of $75. If you can donate more
than three plants it would be appreciated but not
required.
CONSIGNMENT TREES (download the
Consignment Form )
You may sell up to 10 of
your trees on a consignment basis during the show.
There is a form included with this newsletter. You may
bring your consignment trees Friday night as well, but
they should all be listed, tagged, and labeled according
to the instructions provided on the consignment sheet.
PLANT
SALES
They consist of three different categories of trees: 1)
Trees purchased by the club and styled by members, 2)
Trees donated and styled by members, 3) Consignment
trees where the seller donates part of their profits to
the club.
Plant
sales will be outside in the Sculpture Garden. Plants will
be brought in Saturday evening. Help is needed to move the
plants. If need be, we can use this room (the Green Room)
for plant sales in case of rain.
SET
UP OF DISPLAY AREA
The tables and backdrops will be set up Friday evening
and ready to receive trees the following morning.
Saturday April 29 starting at 8 AM to noon, show set up.
Bring your three best trees in their clean and oiled
pots with your equipment for your display setup. Show
must be complete to open the show at noon.
DEMONSTRATIONS
Will be at 1:30 PM both days. We have a separate room
in the Art Center for the Demos. This room is to the
right of the front door or to the left of the court yard
door.
Sandy
Planting will do the Saturday demo and Lonnie McCormick will
do the Sunday demo. Help is requested to set up the room
and clean it up afterwards.
Sunday April 30 11 AM to 5 PM
Show continues until 5 PM
when we break down the show.
Saturday and Sunday Mornings
We have a lovely
kitchen/lunchroom for our hospitality venue. There is a
refrigerator, stove and microwave in the room. You may
bring in your potluck food donation both mornings.

LABELS FOR SHOW TREES
Charlene Fischer has volunteered to print the name cards
for our trees for the show.
To help her, please send a list of the trees you plan to
show or that you may show.
We owe her a big THANK YOU for doing this.
The following information is
requested:
Trained Since:
Common Name:
Botanical Name:
You may email or phone your
list to charlenerae@mac.com
or (650) 856-1734.
Charlene will do her
best to have your labels ready for your trees on the morning
of the show.
Previously
presented information:
We
have access to the building Friday night. At this time
we can bring in sale plants and do setup. Saturday
morning at 8 am you can start setting up your display.
The display should be completed by 11:30 am for a final
walk-through.
A new
venue in a lovely setting, and we are back in Palo Alto!
The main
show will be in the auditorium at the east end of the
building. We have several rooms and patios reserved for
this event (auditorium, Green Room next to auditorium,
sculpture garden, conference meeting room, and kitchen).
This new location gives us the opportunity to have a banner
at a major Palo Alto intersection.
We hope
that this public location close to parks and a library will
bring in more foot traffic than our previous location.

access to the building beginning Friday night. At this time

Positions requiring volunteers:
Show Chairperson
Plant Sale Coordinator
Consignment Plant Sale Coordinator
Display Setup
Rita Curbow volunteered to do the progress room
Sandy Vrooman is doing Publicity
Kitchen Coordinator
Benefit drawing ticket sellers
Someone to get the back drops from the shed and know how
to set them up.
Thanks to Nancy Eaton and Jane Iki for taking on the task of
designing a floor layout.
Do we have a club member that knows about stage lighting or
display lighting?? We may need additional lighting for the
show.
When the lists come around for signup for pot luck, kitchen
duties, plant sale duties, and hospitality, do sign up for
as many hours as you can.
This is a
good time to learn a new job for your club.
Plant sale donations:
The club expects each individual to contribute 3 bonsai
plants or related materials (pots, books, etc). These items
should have a sale value of $25 each, or you can give a cash
donation of $75. If you can donate more than three plants
it would be appreciated but not required.
Your club
has decided to make this request for additional trees rather
than trying to locate more material without the position of
Plant Sale Coordinator remaining currently unfilled.
We have
discovered that the plants that sell best are the deciduous
trees. There doesn’t seem to be the same level of
appreciation for conifers even though they might be more
difficult and time consuming to produce.
