Shohin exhibition at the Kusamura
Bonsai Club Show 2006
News
The club is in urgent
need of a new place to house the club shed. Our current
location must be vacated this month or next as the homeowner
is selling her house. If you have a yard area with street
access, we would appreciate the use of the yard to construct
a new shed to store club items. Please contact John Planting
if you can help.
2007 Kusamura Bonsai Show
This year will mark the show’s return to
Mitchell Park, a long-standing home of the club show,
located at 3800 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303. The
show date will be April 28–29, 2007. Stay tuned for news
about member roles in producing the show.
Potting Parties
Mark your calendar for the following potting
party dates: January 14, 2007, and February 11, 2007.
Potting parties run from 10AM to 4PM. Members are asked to
each bring trees for styling as a donation to the club.
These events are provided to help newer members learn
repotting techniques and wiring. Long-time members are asked
to bring trees in and to assist newer members with their
contributions. Bring trees being held from previous show
sales to be improved. Remember that each club member is
obligated to provide at least 3 trees to the sale. See the
article in the December issue as a reference.
Interested in Shohin
The Bay
Area Shohin Society meets in San Mateo every third Sunday of
the month. There will be a bi-annual show in October 2007
and a seminar in our area in February 2008. Contact Sandy
Planting for details on location and membership.
Kusamura Beginner-Level Classes
Kusamura
offers beginner-level classes to all those looking to gain
the basic skills of style, wiring, potting, and caretaking.
Classes are offered at the Planting residence for a small
fee covering expenses. Completing the beginner level classes
is required before you can take advanced workshops. Classes
will begin in late January and run for 6 sessions. Class
content can cover group planting, rock planting,
formal/informal upright design, cascade design, soil
preparation, and wiring techniques. It is not only
instructional but loads of fun; a time to meet members and
finesse the beauty from our tress. If you are interested in
taking the class, please contact Sandy Planting to sign up
and get a schedule of classes and requirements.
