October 20,
2006 Meeting
Wow!
What an incredible day. Click on the link to the left to see
before/after pictures of tress and photos from the event.
Kusamura is hosting Marco Invernizzi for a
day long workshop and an evening demonstration. Workshop
fees will be split amongst attendees and attendance at the
workshop. The workshop is currently full with a waiting
list. Be sure to arrive early at
the meeting on that Friday because Marco will start at 7PM
with the General Meeting.
There will be no Show &
Tell and no plant raffle except for the tree Marco finishes
during the meeting.

Marco
Invernizzi was born and grew up in Milan, Italy. At the age
of 16, he became interested in bonsai when he saw the Karate
Kid movie. He studied five years with Salvatore Liporace
and then went to Japan to apprentice with Masahiko Kimura
for four years. Now as a full time bonsai professional, Mr.
Invernizzi works for many nurseries, clubs, and bonsai
associations all over the world.
His work
has received much worldwide acclaim including several
awards. The Norway Spruce (Picea abies) pictured on
the cover of the May/June 2004 issue of the Golden
Statements is the only tree which won all three major
awards; UBI (Unione Bonsaisti Italiani) award, Ginkgo
Bonsai award in Belgium, and Crespi Bonsai Cup award, in
their competition history. See photo below.
Previously Mr. Invernizzi made two trips to the United
States: the first in 2002 as a part of the Master Workshop
Series hosted by GSBF and the tour of the clubs and
workshops in 2003-2004. A versatile speaker and artist,
Marco also holds a university degree in Design. He has deep,
abiding reverence and love for bonsai that becomes apparent
when he talks about his training and experiences.

Golden State
Bonsai Federation’s
XXIX Convention
November 2-5, 2006
Sacramento, CA
Convention Overview
We are very excited about our headliners, Masahiko
Kimura, Lindsay Shiba and Kathy Shaner. They are
familiar to almost everyone in the bonsai community
and they will give us instruction on the techniques
to refine our bonsai, bringing them to a higher
level of development.
There will be a change in some of the workshops,
in that the material will vary in size and value
determined by the workshop leader. Some of the
workshop leaders have over the years, developed some
very outstanding material. By utilizing this change
of having choices in your selection of material, you
will leave the completed workshop greatly satisfied.
Following convention policy, the workshop sign- up
will be on a “First-Come-First-Served” basis. We are
looking forward to great and satisfying workshops.
The following workshops will be offered: (if the
workshop has a *, this is the one with the varied
size and value. There will be a “Bring
your own tree” workshop with Masahiko Kimura, our
headliner, giving you an opportunity to bring your
best to the best. |
