President's Message
Welcome
to Kusamura’s 47th Bonsai year. Your Board hopes
that this year will be an exciting and educational one for
each of you.
Following
our awe-inspiring bus trip to Sumigawa’s and the Redwood
Empire Show we will kick of with a workshop meeting. Bring
your newly acquired trees to start them on their future life
as a bonsai. If you missed this year’s trip, bring a tree
from a previous expedition.
October
will feature a return visit from Italian master Marco
Invernizzi. On Friday. October 20, we will have an all day workshop
for 8 to 10 students at our home and the evening meeting
will feature a demonstration by Marco. Marco was a student
of Masahiko Kimura and has been winning prizes at numerous
European shows, and appearing as a headline in conventions
around the world. His English is excellent and he has a
great sense of humor. It will be a great opportunity for us
all!
We are
still busy planning meetings for the rest of the year and if
you have special programs in mind please communicate your
thoughts to members of the board.
Put the
dates of April 28-29 on your calendar for the annual show.
We will be returning to our old venue at Mitchell Park. (Our
old problems have been resolved.) Now is the time to pick
the trees you will display and concentrate your main efforts
this year on making them show ready. Think also about
prepping your donations to the show sale so they will bring a
good price (thus helping to pay for the show).
Finally,
I want you all to think “volunteerism”, a theme I
will repeat over and over during the year. Everything about
your club depends on the active participation of
every member. Currently we have a vacancy on the board, and
the need for several committee chairs. We need a co-chair
for the show (who will take over in’08) and members of the
committee to put on and man the event.
And – we
all need to support our northern bonsai collection in
Oakland, as docents (regular and occasional) or helpers for
garden maintenance, bonsai maintenance (after being
trained). Talk to those who are doing it and find out how
much fun it is – and again what an educational experience
they had. Our club liaison for the garden is Lonnie
McCormick.
Have a
Great Bonsai Year
John
