Annual Holiday Party

It's that enjoyable time of the year again, and time for the Kusamura Annual Holiday Potluck Supper. It will be held in the Fellowship Hall across the courtyard from the main First Congregational Church building. Remember that the best parking is off Embarcadero Road directly behind the church.

Price of admission for members is a plate of a favorite appetizer, salad, side dish or dessert. (Experience tells us that we should have a wonderful variety of delectables without contacting you in advance.) Oh yes, please bring your food ready for the table. Also bring any utensil(s) that will be needed to serve it. Just to tempt you further, it is rumored that Sandy Planting is bringing her famous Chinese Chicken Salad as her contribution.

Spouses, other special family members and best friends are, of course, welcome to attend the potluck.

There will be some great door prizes, including Sandy's fantastic juniper rock planting that she styled at the November meeting and two special large pots.

Auction

There will be something new this year: a silent, minimum bid auction. The items to be auctioned include a sizable azalea contributed by Jim Ransohoff, a wonderful tall informal upright juniper contributed anonymously, and and assortment of superior quality pots, large and small, donated by our member Dr. Fritz Howard. Please remember to bring your checkbook so that you'll be ready to bid.

The silent auction offers members a rare opportunity to acquire something really special for their collections. It also enables the club to raise money for two projects that it has undertaken: (1) a contribution to the GSBF Collection North for the water basin located on Tosh's Walk near the garden gate, and (2) a donation toward a pedestal in the garden in memory of our member Connie Hinds, who recently passed away. Connie was an early, enthusiastic member of Kusamura, a good friend to us and to bonsai, and also for many years, the editor of Bonsai Clubs International magazine.
