Now that the Holidays are over, it's not too soon to think about working on your bonsai again. Kusamura is sponsoring a workshop with Bill Valavanis on January 6, 2001, starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Plantings' garage. (They have a heater, but bring a sweater, too. You may also bring your lunch if you so desire.)

Bill is a bonsai master from New York. He started shaping seedlings to look like big trees when he was a small boy and went on to study with the masters in Japan. He is a regular on the worldwide convention circuit. He is also a bonsai nurseryman and editor of one of the best bonsai publications in America, International Bonsai.

Bill's workshop will give 10 students the opportunity to style or improve their trees under his guidance, and he's fun to work with. Participants will supply their own plants, wire, and tools. They will have completed at least basic bonsai lessons. The plants should be challenging, with lots of possibilities. The workshop will cost between $40 and $45. To make a reservation and/or to get more information, please contact the Plantings at 650-323-6955.
