JANUARY MEETING
Friday January 20th
NOTE: This is
the third Friday of the month, this is a change in
tradition.
TECHNIQUES MEETING 7-8 PM
Sandy Planting will demonstrate how to do a
saikei.
MAIN MEETING 8-10 PM
Since it has been noticed that Kusamura
members seem not to exhibit any rock plantings we will have
a two meeting topic. January, Sandy Planting will tell us
how to prepare and select rocks to do a rock planting
covering carving, and how to select a good rock. She will
also do a demo rock planting.
At
the February meeting members are requested to bring rocks
and plants for a rock planting workshop.
Saikei and rock plantings can take advantage of stock that
would not stand alone as a bonsai, but grouped together make
a nice showing. This is an easy type of beginner’s tree as
the materials can be quite reasonable in cost.
One
can also do a rock planting with a more mature and styled
tree. The choice with a rock planting is to decide which
you want to make the primary interest. If you have a
developed tree you might consider rocks that enhance and not
over power your tree. If you have young stock, then
consider the arrangements of the rocks to be more dynamic
than the trees.

POTTING PARTY
The next potting party
will be Sunday 1-22-06
at the Plantings. The event lasts from 10 am thru 4 pm.
Bring the trees you will donate to the club for the show
plant sale. Then stay and help develop some of the plant
material donated to Kusamura. This is a good place for
beginners to get in some practice. You can come when you
want and stay as long as you want. If you are staying for
most of the day it is advised that you bring a lunch.
The Wisteria Dig
Duncan Minalga has a client in Palo Alto with an old
wisteria that has a lot of very large suckers. These
suckers have growth low down on the 2” to 3” diameter
trunks. Time and date of the dig to be first week in
January. Call Duncan at 1-650-823-8315. (You must dial
the one)
