August Meeting
Bus
Trip
Saturday, August 26
At 8 am sharp, the 30 passenger bus with bathroom and lots
of space for plants will leave from St. Marks parking lot
and return before 6 pm. St. Marks (were we have our
meetings) is at 600 Colorado, Palo Alto. The cost is $40
per person to cover the bus rental.
You do not need to be a member to go on this trip. You can
invite guests. We will need 28 people to break even. Bring
a lunch as there will be no stops for food. Also be sure to
bring water and a sun hat. We will go first to Sumigawa
Nursery and then visit their growing grounds. This is a
great opportunity to get some very nice material grown
especially for bonsai. The nursery is several generations
old so there are some nicely aged plants as well as new
plants. It is a good place to find material for a trident
grove and their junipers are some of the best available.
Next we will go to the Redwood Empire Bonsai show in Santa
Rosa where Kathy Shaner will do a demonstration. There will
be many fine old bonsai on exhibit. In addition, there will
be vendors. Everything you need for bonsai (plants, tools,
pots, etc.) will be available. There will also be
consignment plants from the club members. To get your
reservation please send your check to Helen Reist, 581
Berkeley Avenue, Menlo Park, CA 94025.
Plants for Sale
Ed Poggensee still has some nice plants that he wants to
sell before moving East at the end of July. Ed has a
gingko
and a gingko group, hawthorne, 2 sago palm groups, elms,
tridents, black pine, olives, crepe myrtle, and a large
ficus.
