Santa Cruz Bonsai Kai Meeting January 19, 2002
The bonsai club had a workshop With Kathy Shaner for the January program. The workshop was all day long and eight members had the pleasure of bringing in their trees for Kathy’s advice. All other members participated as silent observers. Shown below Kathy is helping Gene Broderick with his large Mugo Pine.
John Thompson came alone and helped Kathy out with some of the trees. Here is John helping Greg McDonald with his Black Pine.
The workshop was a great success. All of the trees looked as though that in only a short time they would be ready for the show.
Santa Cruz Bonsai Kai Holiday Party Saturday December 16, 2001 The Santa Cruz Bonsai Kai celebrated the holidays by holding a potluck party at Gode Apon’s home. Shown Below is a photo of Gode standing in his bonsai garden.
Here is a picture of one of Gode’s tray landscape plantings that always make a big hit at the County fair.
The party was a great success with a feast, gift exchange, holiday cheer and lots of friendship. Every one who attended had a great time.
Here
are some photos taken a recent meeting. Sandy Planting gave us a talk on Shohin bonsai display and creation. After the discussion she demonstrated
styling techniques on three trees that were raffled off. Then Sandy helped us
with a workshop on our trees. We surely kept here busy during our January
meeting.
We
also would like to thank Richard Thieltges who
took these photos for us. Richard is a newcomer to our meetings. Here is a
photograph of one of his Suiseki he brought to the meeting.
The photos below are from the collection of Gareth Shepherd.
