Club Information

The Shohin Bonsai Society of Southern California was established in 1979.  Shohin Bonsai encompasses smaller Bonsai trees up to 10 inches in height. They include trees in the Shito category up to 3 inches, Mame Bonsai between 3 and 6 inches, and Shohin trees up to 10 inches. As a small club, we favor more "hands on" meetings where members bring material to work on or we work on material owned by the Club. We also bring in guests for demonstrations and often feature experts from our own membership to lead "hands on" demonstrations.

Annual Exhibit

The Club holds an annual Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibit in combination with the Santa Anita Bonsai Society in May during the Memorial Day Weekend. The exhibit is held at the Los Angeles County Arboretum.  The Bonsai size standards for the show are a maximum height of 10 inches (from the lip of the pot to the top of the apex or from the apex to the lowest portion for cascades) and a maximum pot length of 11 inches. The Suiseki size standard is 11 inches combined measurement (height plus width of the stone).
